Reflection Post #3
Reflection #3:
Question: Explain the benefits that come when educators maintain a child's home language. How does this practice uphold the principles of developmentally-appropriate practice?
When an educator uses the same language as the child's language at home, it helps the child feel included and wanted. Also, the child might feel nervous if they are going to a new school where the primary language isn't the one spoken at home so it would be comforting to the student if the educator used the language most familiar to him or her. Using this practice would offer the teachers a chance to check and make sure the student is understanding whatever is being taught. Everyone would benefit because not only is the student learning but so is the teacher which would make it a developmentally appropriate practice for everyone. They are building that connection which is very important.
Thank you for your reflection!
